Dato' Ir Lee Yee CheongAcademician Dato' Ir Lee Yee Cheong, 65, studied in the University of Adelaide, South Australia and graduated with the degree of B.E. (Electrical) with first class honours in 1961. He served with the National Electricity Board Malaysia until 1980. He then joined Tenaga Ewbank Preece (M) Sdn Bhd as a Director and then Managing Director. He became a partner in the U.K. holding company, overseeing the Asia Pacific region. He was a director of Ewbank Preece companies in Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand. Currently he is Advisor to the Chairman of KTA Tenaga Sdn Bhd,

Academician Dato' Ir. Lee was the President, the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM); President of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations; Secretary General, the Federation of Engineering Institutions in South-east Asia and the Pacific, Chairman and Honorary President of Commonwealth Engineers Council. Currently he is the President-Elect of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO).

Academician Dato' Ir Lee is Vice-President and Senior Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia; Chairman of the Board of the ASEAN Council of Academies of Science, Engineering and Technology; Member of the Board of the Inter-Academy Council; and the Academic Council of the World Economic Forum. He is Patron of the Australia based International Young Professionals Foundation.

He is an Honorary Fellow of IEM; the Institution of Electrical Engineers, UK; the Institution of Civil Engineers, UK; the Institution of Engineers, Australia and the Institution of Engineers, Mauritius.

He is a Foreign Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award of the University of Adelaide. He is a Director of the Malaysia Australia Foundation. He proposed and organized the Malaysian Australian University Alumni Convention Kuala Lumpur 1996, the forerunner of AUIAC.

Academician Dato' Ir. Lee was conferred the Malaysian Awards of DPMP and KMN; and the Order of Australia (AO).
