International graduates of Australian
universities prepare to converge in Melbourne in September
A major international convention in Melbourne
in September 2002 is set to attract hundreds of graduates
of Australian universities from around the world to
discuss corporate, social and education issues under
the theme "Networking in the Knowledge Economy".
The Australian Universities International
Alumni Convention (AUIAC) is held every two years and
offers an opportunity for Australian university alumni
from across the globe to network, share experiences,
and form new corporate and government connections.
Chairman of the Convention, The Hon. John
Button, said the AUIAC offered the thousands of international
alumni of Australian universities the opportunity to
renew their connections and links with Australia.
Keynote speakers include Government ministers
from Australia and Asia, CEOs of major companies and
prominent businesspeople, high profile representatives
from government and non-government organisations, as
well as leading academics, scientists and educators
from around the globe - many of whom are Alumni from
Australian Universities. This includes Asgari Stephens,
CEO, Intelligent Capital Malaysia; Huy Truong, CEO Wishlist;
Dr Tikki Pang, Researcher, World Health Organisation
and Dr Peter Doherty, Nobel Prize Laureate in Medicine.
According to the latest figures by IDP
Education Australia, there are over 150,000 international
students at Australian universities this year - a figure
that has progressively increased in recent years.
"It is also an opportunity for alumni
to discuss, debate, share knowledge and exchange ideas
on industry issues and directions, as well as explore
new avenues for collaboration between their businesses,
organizations and governments," Mr. Button said.
